On this page

This is a swipe file, not a lecture. Below are cold email examples grouped by the situation you’re actually in, ready to copy, with a short note on each about the one or two things you must change to make it yours. If you want the reasoning pulled apart line by line, the cold email examples breakdown does exactly that. This page is for grabbing something and getting on with it.

The short version

  • Every example here is a starting point. Change the specifics, keep the structure.
  • The parts you must personalise are marked: the trigger, the problem and the proof.
  • Short beats clever. Every example fits on a phone screen.
  • Pick the scenario that matches yours rather than the one that reads best.
  • For the thinking behind why these work, read the line-by-line breakdown linked at the top.

SaaS: selling software to a busy operator

Subject: [problem] at [company]?

Hi [first_name],

Noticed [company] [trigger: just launched X / is hiring SDRs / moved into Y]. That’s usually when [specific problem] starts eating time.

We help [their role]s at [company type] with that, [one line on how]. [Peer company] cut [metric] by [number] doing it.

Worth a two-minute look?

Change: the trigger, the peer company and the number. Everything else can stay.

Agency: pitching a done-for-you service

Subject: quick idea for [company]’s [channel]

Hi [first_name],

We run [service] for [industry] teams, and having looked at [company]’s [website / ads / outreach], there’s a clear angle: [one specific observation].

We did the same for [similar client] and [result]. Happy to send a short breakdown of what I’d change, no strings.

Want it?

Change: the specific observation. This is the whole email. A generic version (“your marketing could improve”) gets ignored.

Recruiting: reaching a passive candidate

Subject: [specific role] at [company], worth a look?

Hi [first_name],

Your background in [specific skill or experience] is exactly what [hiring company] is after for [role]. It’s [one genuinely appealing detail: remote / the team / the stage].

Not saying you’re looking, but if you were curious I’d happily share the detail. Two-minute read, no pressure.

Change: the specific skill you’re referencing and the appealing detail. Vague flattery reads as a mass send.

Event follow-up: after a conference or webinar

Subject: good to meet at [event]

Hi [first_name],

Enjoyed chatting at [event] about [specific thing you discussed]. You mentioned [their challenge], which is squarely what we work on.

I said I’d follow up, so here I am. Want me to send [the thing you promised], or grab fifteen minutes next week?

Change: the specific thing you talked about. If you can’t remember, this email won’t work, so take notes at the event.

Re-engagement: reviving a cold lead

Subject: bad timing before, better now?

Hi [first_name],

We spoke [when] about [topic] and the timing wasn’t right. Since then [what’s changed: you shipped X / they grew / a relevant trigger], so I thought it was worth another go.

Still on your radar, or should I leave it? Either answer’s fine.

Change: what’s changed since you last spoke. That’s the reason for the email, and without it you’re just nagging.

Turning examples into a campaign

One good example is a single email. A campaign is that email, personalised across a list, with follow-ups, sent from inboxes that are warmed up and rotated so you can actually reach volume. That’s the difference between a nice draft and pipeline.

A cold email sequencer takes your best example, sends it across a list with the follow-ups attached, stops the moment someone replies, and collects every response in one Master Inbox. You bring the copy; it does the sending and the chasing.

A few common questions

Where can I find good cold email examples? Swipe files like this one are a good start, grouped by scenario so you can match yours. For the reasoning behind why an example works, look for breakdowns that annotate the email line by line rather than just listing templates.

Can I copy a cold email example word for word? You can, but you shouldn’t. The specifics, the trigger, the problem, the proof, are what earn the reply, and those have to be yours. Copy the structure, write your own details.

What makes a cold email example actually good? Relevance and brevity. A good example has an obvious reason it was sent to this person, makes one clear point, asks for one small thing, and fits on a phone screen.

To build your own from scratch, start with the cold email templates library and the subject line generator. Once your first emails are out, the sales follow-up templates cover what to send when no one replies yet.
