Reply rate is the only cold email metric worth watching
Open rates died the day Apple started pre-loading tracking pixels, and click tracking on cold mail is a deliverability tax you pay for a number that does not predict revenue. On cold outreach, a reply is the first real sign a stranger wants to hear from you. Everything upstream, the list, the copy, the offer, is judged by whether it produces replies from the right people.
So split the two. Reply rate tells you if people are responding. Positive reply rate tells you if the right people are. A campaign pulling 8 percent replies that are mostly "unsubscribe" is worse than one pulling 3 percent that are mostly "tell me more". The calculator shows both so you are optimising the number that maps to pipeline.
Good rates still need volume behind them
Here is the part most teams miss. A 2 percent positive reply rate is perfectly healthy, but 2 percent of 500 emails is 10 conversations, and half book, so five meetings. The planner runs that maths in reverse: tell it how many meetings you want and it tells you how many emails you have to send, per day, across how many mailboxes.
Almost always the answer is more volume than a single inbox can carry. Gmail and Outlook cap you at a few hundred a day before your reputation slips. That is exactly the wall HotHawk is built to get past: warmed mailboxes, inbox rotation across all of them, and the infrastructure to run 40,000 emails a day and more without burning a single domain. Do the maths, then send it from something that can keep up.

Frequently asked
What is a good cold email reply rate?
For cold outreach, 1 to 5 percent is normal, 5 to 10 percent is strong, and anything above 10 percent means your targeting and copy are working hard. What matters more is the positive reply rate: the share of replies that actually want to talk. A 3 percent reply rate that is mostly interested beats an 8 percent rate that is mostly "no thanks".
How do I calculate cold email reply rate?
Reply rate is replies divided by emails delivered, times 100. If 1,000 emails reach inboxes and 30 people reply, that is a 3 percent reply rate. Positive reply rate is the interested replies divided by delivered. Use delivered rather than sent, since bounced mail never had a chance to get a reply.
Why does volume matter if my reply rate is good?
Because meetings come from the maths, not the rate alone. A 2 percent positive reply rate is fine, but if you only send 500 emails a month you get 10 conversations, and a fraction book. To turn a healthy reply rate into predictable pipeline you need enough volume behind it, sent from infrastructure that can carry it without wrecking deliverability.
Does this tool track opens or clicks?
No. HotHawk does not use open or click tracking, and neither does this calculator. Open-rate pixels and tracking links quietly hurt deliverability, and Apple Mail Privacy Protection made open rates meaningless anyway. Replies are the only signal that counts on cold outreach, so that is what we measure.
Is the calculator free?
Yes, free and no signup. It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or stored anywhere.
